Call to Worship

Leader: The Lord shall come when morning dawns
People: And earth’s dark night is past.
Leader: As the watchman waits for daybreak
People: So my soul hopes for the Lord.
Leader: It is for you, O Lord, that we wait.
People: Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!

Greeting
Pastor: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

Prayer of the Day

*Hymn: #22 “Angels from the Realms of Glory”

* Prayer of Confession

God of abounding grace, have mercy upon us. Our valleys are deep when we are encompassed with care. Our mountains are high when our burdens are heavy. We grope in the maze of our tangled alliances and reap the pain of bad choices and ignorant gambles. You promised that all flesh shall see your salvation. Show us the straight path and the smooth way that lead to your righteousness, through Jesus Christ, who is the way. Amen.

*Silent Confession

*Declaration of Forgiveness
Pastor:
God has forgiven your guilt and put away all your sins. Friends, believe the good news.
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.

*Response: # 322 “Spirit of the Living God”
Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;
Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.
Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Special Music “A Song of Adoration”

Prayer for Illumination

Old Testament Reading - Psalm 85 (Selected)
Leader: You showed favor to your land, O Lord. You restored the fortunes of Jacob.
People: You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins.
Leader: I will listen to what God the Lord will say.
People: He promises peace to his people, his saints, but let them not return to folly.
Leader: Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,
People: That his glory may dwell in our land.
Leader: Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.

People: Faithfulness springs from the earth, and righteousness looks down from Heaven.
Leader: The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.
People: Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
