" How I Spent My Summer Vacation"
On August 4th I fell and broke my bone on my left shoulder, and I spent one month at the Lutheran Homes of Oconomowoc getting well. It turned out to be a blessing for me. The nursing staff was so wonferful, the Nurses' Aids were so special and good to me, and the food was excellent! My therapist worked on rny arm everyday, and I have continued for the next month twice a week. I met people down in therapy that were friends from fifty years ago. What a blessing! The most fun of all was the "Variety Show" that I entered with all the residents in my unit. We sang three songs at one time. They were "Swing Low Sweet Chariot", "When the Saints Go Marching In", and "I'm Gonna Sing and Share it". There were over fifty residents in wheel chairs and they all sang with us. One of the staff made us Paper hats to wear. Even the cook sang with us. I went to Chaple every Sunday with Mary Jane McBroom.   I recommend the wonderful hospital stay I had to all of you. Thank you for your visits and cards. We have a beautiful caring church. Even the choir surprised me at and visited, singing many songs and treats of cookies to.

"Prader-Willi Syndrome Mission"
The national convention was held in Milwaukee, July 2-4, 2008. Our church helped me to raise $1,460 for this mission.  I raised $740 by baking 28 pies, and the church mission board, the Pw and CWF matched that with $700. The Money helped to bring two families with four children each to the convention, from all over the US. Doctors and care givers came from all over the world. Mary Kemos and Sandie VanKorn spent two days baby sitting with one baby. There were twelve babies all needing individual care. Both of them fell in iove with the little babies. Jackie Mallow is the Director of Admissions of Oconomowoc, and Board member of the PWA (USA). She welcomes anyone to visit their client homes (they have nine) and their workshop at any time. (The picture is of Bruce and I presenting Jackie with the check for $1,460. The KMUPC supports many missions and I thank everyone who helped with this wonderful conference.

God bless each of you,
Marian Pfeiffer

We support the local food pantry and are again collecting food for local needy families to help make their holidays more enjoyable. Please remember those less fortunate and be generous in your donations! We also staff the nursery with volunteers and get hosts for the Fellowship Hour every week. We send cards to those with special concerns and stay in contact with the homebound. We even send a little tasty  energy to the college students at exam time! Summary of PNC Meetings for
September - October 2008

The Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) continues to work toward the finalization of the Church Information Form (CIF).

On October 8th Revs. Roger Woehl and Bill Zieche of the Committee on Ministry (COM) joined our weekly meeting to review and comment on the content and progress of our CIF to date.

They commented favorably on the progress that was made since the formation of the PNC. They also suggested some changes to some portions of the document, which the committee will consider in subsequent meetings.

Respectfully submitted,

Fred Preussler

COMMITTEE REPORTS
A Note from the Clerk of Session -

1 often think about my journey with our church and how there was one person that met me every Sunday at the door to welcome me. It was Bob Wash burn.
When I first met Bob, I thought that he was just being nice to me because he knew my husband Steve and the Lembke clan. I now know that is just the kind of guy he is. Bob, you made a huge difference on how 1 felt when I came to this Church to worship, thank you.  I want to extend that challenge to the entire membership. When we see a new face (or even a not so frequent face) come through our front door, please take the time to smile and welcome them. There are many people who automatically already do this incredible gesture, and some people a bit more reserved. I know that this extending of the hand can make a huge difference in our Church's first impression and the entire worship process.

Right now we are in. need of members to get involved and step into the Deacon and Session positions and also to help out on a committees. While the thought of adding another task in your already crowded daily schedule may at first thought have you decline the invitation, please remember we need everyone to he!p out. We need to step up and be God's hands. It is through serving others unselfishly that we find true joy in our hearts. Please take a minute to think about talking to Catherine Warden or any Session member on how you can help. You have talents that we need, unlock your potential!

In all you do, reflect His love.
Kathy Lembke

Worship Committee
The focus of recent discussion has been how to make the beginning of the worship service more meaningful for the children before they go to their classes. We are thankful for this challenge. You may see some changes in the order of the service because we do want to send the children out in a timely fashion as they have only so many minutes for their lesson.
Any announcements should be given to the secretary by Wednesday morning of the week you want the information to be included. Otherwise, find the Sunday lector and give them written information to be announced that day.
Further recommendations agreed upon by the Session were:
1 - NO service for Thanksgiving as attendance has been low for many years.
2. One Christinas Eve Service at 5:00 PM. with the children providing the Christmas story

Personnel Committee
During our Sunday, October 12th worship service; I shared this update on our Personnel Committee activities: Personnel committee: Bob Baumann, Chair; Emily Guderyon, Pastor Wayne, and Roxanne Baumann.
Our Personnel Committee Goals are:
•     To build an orderly, healthy work environment for our staff.
•     Give the Session recommendations on policies, procedures, and practices to build for our future and provide win-win outcomes.
•     Grow and support our staff.
»     Be a place where issues can be resolved before they become personal or emotionally-charged situations.
•     And provide clearly shared expectations to get top performance; with VERY few surprises.
The Personnel Committee is following the recommendations of the Presbytery on personnel, which includes: «     Establishing clear job descriptions with help from our employees with measurable goals
•     Provide clear performance expectations for each position
•     Each employee will develop their own 6-month work plans.
•     We will have yearly employee performance reviews
•     An Employee Handbook is being developed with information for all employees
We have benchmarked Covenant Presbyterian church in South Carolina; who has a similar structure in place; and has willingly shared ideas with us. We have a lot of work to do; and are making good progress. Our committee welcomes your questions and your ideas. We will keep you updated to our progress.

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,
He called it... Dad

Jesus on the 4th of July

We gather 'round to celebrate
On Independence Day
Pay Homage to our country
As the children run and play.

With Barbecues and picnics
And fireworks in the air
The flag we own is proudly flown
To show how much we care.

The stars and stripes spell freedom
She waves upon the breeze
'White Bursts of colors can be seen
 Above the towering trees.

This is all quite wonderful

We revel in delight
But God above in divine love
Has brought this day to light.

With just a strode of liberty
A touch of His great hand
He gave democracy to us
And helped this country stand.
For battles that were fought
Be filled with pride for those who died
And freedoms that were bought.

But don't forget to thank the One
That gives the bright display
The reason why we paint the sky
On Independence Day
